The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council is an umbrella body of professionals in journalism in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria.
Our Mission
- (a) To safeguard the freedom of the press and the freedom of journalists to engage in legitimate professional activities;
- (b) To collect, collate, preserve, and publish such statistical and other information as may be useful for professional purposes;
- (c) To encourage the participation of members in decision-making processes in the Union and their places of work in particular, and society in general;
- (d) To protect and advance the socio-economic interests of the society and such other objectives as are lawful and are consistent with the spirit and practice of journalism;
- (e) To encourage adequate training and education of members;
- (f) To negotiate conditions of service and establish welfare schemes for members;
- (g) To ensure strict adherence to the Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists as approved by the Nigerian Press Organisation (NPO);
- (h) Pursuant to holding the government accountable to the people, in line with Section 22 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Union shall carry out projects that promote democracy and good governance;
- (i) To collaborate with organisations with similar objectives to defend the fundamental rights of Nigerian citizens and society at large.
