FCT SEB trains Teachers for WAEC’s computer-based test transition

To prepare students for the digital future, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board has spearheaded a comprehensive computer-based testing (CBT) training programme for senior secondary school teachers. This initiative aligns with the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) transition to a fully digital examination system.
The intensive workshop, held across designated zones in the six Area Councils, was designed to equip educators with essential skills for guiding students through WAEC’s new examination format. Speaking at the event, the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr Sani Mohammed Ladan, highlighted the critical need for digital proficiency in modern education.
Empowering Teachers for a Digital Transition
Dr Ladan revealed that 88 senior secondary schools were invited to participate, each nominating three teachers, bringing the total number of attendees to 199. The training covered key areas such as CBT navigation, software functionality, and effective student preparation strategies.
He described the initiative as a proactive step towards ensuring FCT schools remain ahead in the transition to WAEC’s digital examination era. To sustain this momentum, the Board has pledged continued support, addressing resource gaps and organising follow-up sessions for further learning.
Commitment to Quality Education
Reaffirming the Board’s dedication to educational excellence, Dr Ladan stressed the importance of continuous professional development for teachers, students, and non-academic staff. He commended the workshop’s facilitators, including ICT experts from various departments within the Education Secretariat, for their dedication to the initiative.
He further urged ICT stakeholders to collaborate with the Board in expanding digital knowledge within schools. Expressing appreciation to the Minister of the FCT, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, Dr Ladan acknowledged the government’s efforts in providing ICT facilities, including laptops and tablets distributed to schools across the FCT. He assured that these resources would be utilised effectively and maintained for long-term benefits.
Teachers Call for More Digital Resources
Participants lauded the training, particularly the hands-on experience with the WAEC CBT demo platform. They emphasised the need for additional ICT facilities, including an offline CBT demo platform to tackle connectivity challenges in some schools. Many also advocated for further training sessions to accommodate more teachers and deepen digital literacy.
Recognising Dr Ladan’s leadership in championing this initiative, attendees expressed confidence that the programme would significantly enhance both teacher and student preparedness for the digital examination era.
The training was conducted across multiple zones, including Kwali, Abaji, AMAC Zones 1, 2 & 3, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kubwa, and Bwari, ensuring wide-reaching impact across the FCT’s educational landscape.
