No Money, No Honey!

“No money, no honey”—so goes a popular saying.

There is no romance without finance. Even the Bible clearly states that money answers all things, and that certainly includes your love life. Nothing of value on earth comes free, except for the air we breathe, a gift from God.

Even in Freetown, one still requires money to live a comfortable and enjoyable life.

Avoiding conversations about finances with the person you intend to marry is counterproductive to your relationship. Long before the wedding takes place and the marriage begins, both of you should have an honest discussion and develop a sensible financial plan for your future together. Talk about where you plan to live, how you will cover food, vacations, general welfare, and other necessities. Consider the projected costs and determine how you both will fund them. Ideally, it is wise to have at least a two-year plan in place.

The period of serious dating or courtship—whichever term you prefer—should not be solely about going out, relaxing, and watching films together. It should also be a time to lay everything on the table and create a clear plan for your shared future. Waiting until after marriage to discuss and plan your finances is neither wise nor practical. Research shows that when financial struggles arise in a marriage, love—both affection and emotional connection—often fades quickly. After all, love and financial hardship do not mix well!

As you prepare for your wedding, make sure to have the “money talk” as well—it is essential. Do not shy away from it. Two good heads have always been better than one. And always remember: No money, no honey!

Do you feel me?
