Lagos records 8,692 domestic, sexual violence ases in one year

Lagos State recorded 8,692 cases of domestic and sexual violence within the last year, according to figures released by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN.
Pedro disclosed the statistics on Friday during the flag-off of the 2025 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
Out of the total, 3,685 cases involved domestic violence. The state also secured more than 140 convictions and restraining orders within the period. Victims included children as young as 18 months.
The commissioner said the government has intensified its response through free legal aid, counselling, shelters, rehabilitation services, and awareness campaigns.
This year’s campaign is themed “SGBV… It Concerns Us All.” Officials stressed that tackling sexual and gender-based violence requires collective responsibility from families, schools, communities, and religious institutions.
