FG introduces entry toll at Abuja National Stadium
The Federal Government has introduced entry toll charges at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, requiring motorists to pay between N300 and N1,000 to access the premier sports facility, effective Monday, November 24, 2025.
The new charges, announced through an official notice displayed at the stadium gates, mark the latest revenue-generation initiative by the Tinubu administration and have already sparked debate among sports enthusiasts, civic groups, and social commentators.
According to the official notice observed by journalists on Monday, the approved charges are structured as follows:
*Cars and Buses:* N500
*Trucks:* N1,000
*Vendors:* N300
The notice, displayed prominently on a large banner at the stadium gate, read: “PUBLIC NOTICE! PUBLIC NOTICE!! PUBLIC NOTICE!!! This Is To Inform The General Public That Entry Toll Charges Are Now Applicable At The National Stadium, Abuja With Effect From Monday, 24th November, 2025.”
The policy includes exemptions for certain categories of vehicles, highlighting what observers describe as a selective application of the charges. Exempted categories include:
Staff of the National Sports Commission (NSC) on presentation of valid ID cards
Government official vehicles
Special services vehicles (ambulances and fire service vehicles)
The exemptions have raised questions about equitable implementation, particularly regarding the broad category of “government official vehicles.”
The Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission, defended the new charges as necessary measures to enhance facility management and improve security within the stadium premises.
The official notice concluded with an appeal for public cooperation: “Your co-operation is highly appreciated as we strive to improve security and facility management within the stadium.”
However, the government did not provide detailed information on how the collected revenue would be utilized or what specific security and facility improvements are planned.
