Ember-Month Festivities: Abuja residents advised to avoid firecrackers, Police say
As the festive season approaches, the FCT Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, has issued a warning to residents against the sale, purchase, or use of firecrackers, knockout explosives, and other unapproved pyrotechnic items.
The Command expressed concern over the rising circulation of these dangerous items in the Territory.
Firecrackers are known to cause serious injuries, fire outbreaks, and public panic.
They can also provide cover for criminal activities, disrupt public peace, and put vulnerable members of the community—including children, the elderly, and those with health conditions—at risk.
Residents are strongly urged to follow this directive.
FCT Police operatives have been instructed to enforce the law, and anyone found violating the advisory will be arrested and prosecuted.
The public is also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any person involved in selling or using firecrackers.
Reports can be made at the nearest police station or via the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311.
