Alpha jet Pilots hailed after safe ejection in Kainji flight emergency
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has praised two Alpha Jet pilots for their bravery after they safely ejected when their aircraft developed an emergency shortly after take-off at NAF Base Kainji on 6 December 2025.
The incident happened during a post-inspection test flight. According to the Air Force, the pilots kept their composure, steered the jet away from populated areas and then ejected safely. They were immediately picked up by rescue teams and are now undergoing routine medical checks.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the pilots for their courage and quick decision-making, saying their actions prevented a tragedy. He also ordered a Board of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the emergency.
The NAF also acknowledged the quick response from its Search and Rescue teams, Fire and Crash Response units and medical personnel, who secured the area and ensured the well-being of the crew.
The Air Force noted that the incident highlights the risks that come with military flying operations. It added that its personnel continue to show dedication and professionalism while carrying out missions that support national security.
The NAF reassured the public that it remains committed to strict safety standards and the protection of both its personnel and civilians.
