The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of journalists from Gombe State who lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident.
In a heartfelt condolence message addressed to the President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya and members of the NUJ Gombe State Council, the FCT Council described the incident as a devastating blow to the journalism profession and the Nigerian media community at large.
Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, said the council received the news with profound shock and sadness, noting that the fallen journalists were dedicated professionals who died in the line of duty.
According to the statement, the deceased journalists were shining beacons of truth, courage, and commitment, whose passion for journalism and service to society remained exemplary until their final moments.
“Their untimely departure has left an irreplaceable void in our ranks,” the statement read. “However, their legacy of fearless reporting, professionalism, and unwavering service to humanity will endure forever.”
The NUJ FCT Council extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues, and the entire NUJ Gombe State Council, assuring them of its full solidarity during the period of mourning.
Comrade Ike also prayed for divine strength and comfort for the families affected by the tragedy, asking God to grant eternal rest to the souls of the departed journalists.
The council described the incident as a painful reminder of the risks journalists face in the course of discharging their professional duties and called for renewed attention to road safety to prevent further loss of lives.
The tragic accident has thrown the Gombe media community into mourning, as tributes continue to pour in from journalists, media organisations, and professional bodies across the country.
