Orji Kalu vows to deliver Abia to APC ahead of 2027 elections
The political atmosphere in Abia State is beginning to heat up ahead of the 2027 general election, as Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North at the National Assembly, has declared his determination to ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) takes over the state.
Kalu made the declaration during his annual New Year visit to the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, at Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The former Abia State governor said he was ready to deploy all political resources at his disposal to wrest power from the ruling Labour Party in Abia. According to him, the APC must record a sweeping victory in the state during the next election cycle.
“I will support President Bola Tinubu and the APC governorship candidate in the elections. I will put my heart on the field to ensure that the APC wins a landslide victory in Abia,” Kalu said.
While acknowledging his personal relationship with the incumbent governor, Dr Alex Otti, Kalu made it clear that friendship would not affect his political mission.
“Governor Alex Otti is my friend, but this is not about friendship. This is about politics and the total victory of the APC,” he stated.
The senator also charged state governors across the country to take responsibility for security within their states instead of placing the burden solely on President Tinubu. He recalled his tenure as Abia governor, claiming that the state enjoyed peace and stability under his leadership.
“When I was governor of Abia State, there was total security of lives and property. Kidnapping and other violent crimes were nonexistent at that time, even when other states were battling serious insecurity,” he said.
Kalu praised Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for sustaining peace in the state and urged other governors to emulate his leadership style.
He further explained that his annual visit to the Ebonyi APC chairman was rooted in long-standing loyalty and trust, describing Okoro-Emegha as a dependable ally.
“He is an embodiment of loyalty. I raised him from childhood, even when his father was alive. He was part of the success stories recorded during my tenure as governor,” Kalu said.
He added that when he introduced Okoro-Emegha to former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, he advised him to offer total loyalty to his principal, a virtue he said has continued under the current administration.
