The Senate on Tuesday approved the appointment of Justice Joseph Oyewole as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The confirmation followed consideration and adoption of the report from the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, chaired by Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (APC, Ondo Central). The committee had screened Oyewole, who currently serves as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, and recommended his elevation.

The nomination was initially forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu in line with Section 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter during plenary before referring it to the Judiciary Committee for review.

With the Senate’s approval, Justice Oyewole is now set to join the apex court, marking a significant step in his judicial career.
