The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has announced the appointment of Mr. Mufutau Ojo as its new Editor-in-Chief. He succeeds Mr. Ephraim Sheyin, who retired on December 11 after an illustrious 35-year career of dedicated service to the organisation.
Mr. Ojo is a distinguished alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated in 1988 with a degree in English, earning the prestigious Ogungbesan Prize for academic excellence. He further honed his expertise with a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos and a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Lagos State University.
A veteran journalist with over 20 years of professional experience, Mr. Ojo began his career at Democrat Newspaper before joining NAN in 2007. Within the agency, he has served in various capacities, such as special adviser to the managing director and director in charge of special duties.
As a Fellow of the Thomson Reuters Foundation in London, Mr Ojo brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He will oversee NAN’s vast editorial team of more than 500 editors and reporters spread across its Abuja headquarters, Lagos Directorate, 35 state offices, and 18 district offices.
As the head of Africa’s largest content provider and Nigeria’s foremost information agency, Mr. Ojo will manage an expansive operational network. This includes NAN’s international offices in New York, Johannesburg, and Abidjan, which bolster its capacity to deliver global news coverage.
Under his leadership, NAN will continue leveraging its strong partnerships with renowned international news organisations such as Reuters, Agence France-Presse, and Xinhua to provide timely, accurate, and comprehensive news to its audience.
Mr. Ojo’s appointment marks a new chapter in NAN’s commitment to excellence in journalism and information dissemination.
