Police Arrest man for raping, impregnating 12-Year-Old in FCT
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl inside a parked vehicle in Abuja.
The arrest was made on October 2, 2026, by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
According to the command, the officers observed a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows wound up.
The police said the officers became suspicious after noticing that the vehicle was shaking and moved towards it to investigate.
Upon opening the vehicle, the officers allegedly found Halilu sexually assaulting the 12-year-old girl.
The suspect was immediately arrested, while the victim was rescued, according to the police.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the minor on several occasions inside the same vehicle.
Adeh alleged that the suspect had threatened to “deal with her” if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
She added that a medical examination conducted on the victim showed that she was approximately three months pregnant, allegedly as a result of the abuse.
The police spokesperson said the victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody.
Adeh said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of children under their care.
The command also called on members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station.
The police provided the following emergency contact numbers for reports to the command: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
