Atiku accuses Tinubu of making life expensive, promises affordable living
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has promised to make life more affordable and improve security across Nigeria, blaming President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the rising cost of living.
Atiku made the pledge in a post on his official X account on Wednesday, urging registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former vice-president said Nigerians across different age groups and economic backgrounds were struggling with rising living costs, while many families remained worried about their safety amid persistent insecurity.
He highlighted the difficulties faced by parents, pensioners and young people, particularly the rising costs of food, transportation, rent, healthcare and other basic necessities.
“Parents go to bed worried about what they will feed their children tomorrow. Pensioners must choose between buying medicine and buying food. Young people work hard, yet transport, rent and basic needs consume what they earn,” Atiku said.
He added that insecurity had compounded the challenges facing households across the country.
“And across the country, families live with the fear of kidnapping, attacks and whether their loved ones will return home safely,” he said.
Atiku argued that Nigerians should not be forced to contend with hunger and insecurity simultaneously, warning against allowing the country’s current challenges to become the future inherited by younger generations.
He urged eligible voters to collect and safeguard their PVCs, describing them as essential instruments for exercising their democratic rights and demanding change through the ballot.
“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he said.
The ADC presidential candidate also criticised Tinubu’s economic policies, accusing the administration of making life more expensive for Nigerians.
He pledged to work towards reducing the burden of living costs and improving national security if given the opportunity to govern.
“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” Atiku said.
He called on Nigerians across generations to unite behind his vision of a country where families can live with dignity, safety and hope.
“Let us stand together, across generations, and vote for a Nigeria where every family can live with dignity, safety and hope,” he added.
