Jonathan Urges Nigeria to Boost Local Manufacturing, Reduce Imports
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigeria to strengthen local manufacturing by developing the resources, skills and technology needed to produce more goods and services domestically and reduce dependence on imports.
Jonathan made the call on Wednesday while commissioning the Zeetin Technologies plant in Idu, Abuja, a facility that manufactures tricycles for the Nigerian market.
The former president said Nigeria’s large youth population could be a major driver of industrial growth if properly harnessed to expand local production, create jobs and stimulate economic development.
He urged the country to learn from nations that have successfully mobilised their human and material resources to build strong manufacturing industries and establish themselves as reliable producers and exporters.
According to Jonathan, Nigeria must make better use of its abundant natural resources and youthful workforce to strengthen domestic industries and reduce its reliance on imported products.
He stressed that investing in local production would help create economic opportunities, improve the country’s productive capacity and support sustainable national development.
The commissioning of the Zeetin Technologies plant highlights the role of local manufacturing in meeting domestic demand and expanding Nigeria’s industrial base.
