Senator Oluremi Tinubu bags ‘Woman of the Year’ award

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been recognised as Woman of the Year at the Independent Awards 2024. The award was presented at a grand ceremony in Lagos on Saturday, where Tinubu was represented by Fatima Tajudeen, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to the Independent Newspaper board for the recognition, stating, “I receive this prestigious award with deep appreciation.”
She dedicated the honour to Nigerian women and youth, acknowledging their resilience and contributions to nation-building. Describing the award as a motivation to continue championing progress, she also commended Independent Newspaper for recognising her efforts.
The gala celebrated excellence across various sectors, honouring 36 individuals and organisations for their outstanding contributions. Governor Seyi Makinde was named Independent Man of the Year, while Chief Bisi Akande received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other notable winners included Governor Charles Soludo for Urban Renewal, Governor Bassey Otu for Economic Transformation, and Governor Abdullahi Sule for Solid Minerals Development. In entertainment, social media personality Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, was awarded Social Media Influencer of the Year, while business magnate Otunba Mike Adenuga and other industry leaders were recognised for their achievements.
