The Demon called “Familiarity”

“A prophet is not without honour, except in his own home and among his people.” This profound statement was made by our Lord Jesus Christ, but it was not a recommendation; rather, it was an observation about how certain people lose respect for even great individuals once they become close or intimate enough to share the same space. There is a certain awe, honour, and respect that you should maintain for your partner or spouse because every sane, self-respecting, and worthy person craves respect and honour, regardless of how long they have been a part of your life.
True respect is reflected in how you speak to someone, how sensitive you are to making adjustments when something you do unsettles them, and the way you introduce your partner to friends and relatives. These actions reveal whether or not you respect them. For some people, even how you prepare and serve a meal can communicate the level of respect you hold for them.
Taking care of yourself physically—making an effort to look good and smell pleasant whether alone or with your partner—also demonstrates respect. Keeping your private areas clean and fresh, whether you are a man or a woman, shows your spouse that you care about them. Respect is also shown by giving your partner their private time when they ask for it or when it is clear they need some time alone. You can create your list of behaviours that reflect respect, tailored to your partner’s unique needs, and start practising them.
Many potentially great relationships and marriages are breaking down due to the all-important issue of unhealthy familiarity. No sane person wants to leave a relationship where they feel loved, supported, and respected. Protect your relationship and safeguard your marriage against infidelity or unnecessary conflict by being intentionally respectful to your partner or spouse.
Do you feel me?
