National Security Adviser pledges to address domestic insecurity

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening internal security and ensuring that those responsible for acts of violence are brought to justice, both within the country and internationally.
Speaking on his behalf at the inaugural edition of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) Forum, the Director of Legal Services at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Mr Zakari Mijinyawa, highlighted notable progress in national security operations. He disclosed that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) had dismantled more than 1,000 illegal refineries. In addition, land border surveillance has been enhanced by over 60%, while airport security has been bolstered through the installation of modern electronic gates.
Mallam Ribadu paid tribute to the courage of Nigeria’s security personnel and local community volunteers, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, for their instrumental roles in reclaiming territories and rescuing victims of violence and abductions.
He underscored the essential function of the media in promoting national unity, urging journalists to report responsibly and in the interest of the country. “Responsible journalism is a patriotic obligation,” he asserted, warning against the dangers of misinformation and the spread of fake news.
Addressing young Nigerians, Ribadu encouraged them to assume leadership responsibilities and contribute actively to national development. “The time for leadership is now—not at some distant point in the future,” he remarked, urging the youth to leverage their voices and skills in support of peace, vigilance, and social cohesion.
He concluded by commending the Voice of Nigeria and the Ministry of Information for hosting the forum, while advocating for stronger cooperation among the federal government, state authorities, and civil society in advancing dialogue and collective efforts towards national security.
