Powering a greener Nigeria: Sintali ,GBCN partner to drive EDGE certification nationwide
A strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Sintali and the Green Building Council Nigeria (GBCN) to accelerate the adoption of EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) green building certification across the country. Announced on 9 June 2025, the partnership is set to transform Nigeria’s construction landscape by promoting resource-efficient, climate-smart buildings that align with global sustainability goals.
EDGE, developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), is a globally recognised green building standard and certification system that helps developers design and construct resource-efficient buildings. The system is designed to be affordable and accessible, delivering at least 20% savings in energy, water, and embodied energy in building materials.
The MoU formalises a non-exclusive strategic alliance between Sintali, a global EDGE certification provider, and GBCN, which will serve as a strategic referrer and local market advocate. Together, they aim to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to sustainable development and contribute to both national and international climate targets.
Through this collaboration, Sintali and GBCN will roll out a range of initiatives to encourage the widespread adoption of EDGE certification across Nigeria’s rapidly evolving built environment. These initiatives will include joint marketing and awareness campaigns, targeted training workshops, and mentorship opportunities aimed at building a strong network of green building professionals and supporting developers in implementing sustainable design practices.
“We are excited to partner with the Green Building Council Nigeria to advance green construction across the country,” said Eleni Polychroniadou, Co-Founder of Sintali. “Nigeria holds tremendous potential to lead in sustainable development, and by equipping the market with the right tools and knowledge, we can support a rapid and inclusive transition to net zero.”
