Tinubu approves One-Year tenure extension for Customs boss Bashir Adeniyi
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
The extension, which will take Adeniyi’s tenure beyond its initial expiry date of August 31, 2025, was announced in a statement on Thursday by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the decision will allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical projects central to the Tinubu administration’s economic agenda.
“These include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol,” the statement said.
President Tinubu commended Adeniyi for his dedication and leadership, expressing confidence that the extension will enhance the agency’s capacity to deliver on its core responsibilities—trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
