563 Motorists tried to bribe Officers in July 2025 – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it recorded 563 cases of motorists attempting to bribe its personnel in July 2025, as part of its ongoing drive to uphold discipline, transparency, and integrity on Nigerian roads.
According to the Corps, Osun State topped the list with 155 recorded cases, the highest by any sector command. The FRSC described the offence — classified as “Attempt to Corrupt Marshal on Duty” — as a serious breach of ethical and public safety standards.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the Osun Sector Command for its vigilance and zero tolerance for extortion or inducement.
He also singled out Assistant Route Commander Babatunde J. Owoeye, who was responsible for 104 of the bookings, praising his dedication and professionalism as exemplary for officers nationwide.
Mohammed stressed that any attempt to compromise patrol teams would not be tolerated, adding that the Corps is working to entrench a culture of integrity. He said officers who resist unethical offers will continue to receive institutional recognition and support.
The Corps Marshal noted that targeted enforcement, regular performance reviews, and values-based training are essential to maintaining a corruption-free service and restoring public confidence in traffic management.
The FRSC reminded motorists that offering bribes to its personnel is a criminal offence under Nigerian law and urged full compliance with traffic rules, as well as cooperation with patrol officers.
While commending officers involved in the July operations, Mohammed urged all FRSC personnel across the country to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct and remain committed to the Corps’ mission of promoting safety and discipline on Nigerian roads.
