Gov Sule warns of new Boko Haram splinter group ‘Wulowulo’ infiltrating North-Central
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has sounded the alarm over the emergence of a new Boko Haram splinter group, identified as “Wulowulo,” which he said is infiltrating the north-central region of Nigeria.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ security meeting held on Monday in Lafia, the state capital, Sule cautioned that the presence of the group could further worsen the already fragile security situation in the region.
He urged security agencies to intensify surveillance and adopt proactive strategies to prevent the new terrorist faction from gaining a foothold in Nasarawa State.
“As you are aware, this new group of Wulowulo, which is a splinter group of Boko Haram, is beginning to surface in the north-central zone,” the governor stated.
Sule further revealed that another faction, known as the Lakurawa group, has become a major security concern in neighbouring Kwara State.
“The Lakurawa group is now a big problem in Kwara. Originally, they were somewhere around Kebbi and Sokoto states, but now they have become prominent in Kwara, which is one of the states in the north-central,” he added.
The governor said the meeting was convened to discuss the growing insecurity in different parts of the country and to develop preventive measures to stop the spread into Nasarawa.
“Some of them are beginning to spread into our state. It is very important that we take steps to ensure that does not happen to us,” Sule emphasized.
He also expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnappings in Lafia and Karu local government areas, calling for a more effective security strategy to tackle the problem.
It would be recalled that late last year, another terrorist faction known as the Lakurawa group reportedly infiltrated some parts of Sokoto and Kebbi states from the Republic of Niger and Mali, raising renewed security concerns across the northwest and north-central regions.
