Gov Bago pledges continued support for N-HYPPADEC as Commission distributes telief items
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has restated his government’s commitment to partnering with the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) in promoting agriculture and supporting flood-affected communities.
The governor made this known in Minna during the flag-off of the distribution of 850 hand-driven power tillers, 4,000 life jackets, fertilizers, and other relief materials to member states.
He commended the Managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, for his dedication to improving the lives of people in N-HYPPADEC states and for aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on agricultural development.
Governor Bago described the gesture as a clear demonstration of N-HYPPADEC’s commitment to food security and community empowerment.
He urged farmers to embrace dry-season farming and pasture production, promising that the state government would complement the effort with 160 water pumps to boost agricultural activities.
The governor also appealed to the Commission to include the reticulation of New Bussa and Bida in its 2026 budget and to assist in rehabilitating the Kuta waterworks.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said Niger State received 165 of the power tillers, alongside other items for flood-affected areas such as Mokwa.
He explained that the intervention was aimed at reducing vulnerability, improving livelihoods, and strengthening food production across the member states.
