EFCC’s action against Sylva politically motivated – Aide
Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for declaring his principal wanted, describing the move as a “coordinated political onslaught” aimed at tarnishing Sylva’s reputation.
In a statement released Monday night, Bokoru accused the anti-graft agency of abandoning proper procedure by announcing the development through social media rather than formal communication channels. He claimed the action was part of a recurring effort to portray Sylva negatively in the public eye.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday announced via social media that it had declared Chief Timipre Sylva wanted. No formal communication was extended to him, and no established protocol was observed,” the statement read.
Bokoru added that the latest allegations against Sylva represent a continuation of shifting narratives around earlier accusations and called for an objective review of the case.
He explained that Sylva remains committed to lawful processes and will honour the EFCC’s invitation once he completes a medical check-up in the United Kingdom.
According to Bokoru, the refinery project mentioned in the EFCC’s notice is a legitimate venture with proper documentation available for verification.
“To our friends, allies, and well-wishers: this, too, shall pass. Truth, though often delayed, remains consistent. Those behind this campaign will not prevail,” he concluded.
