EFCC busts “Yahoo Academy” in Abuja, arrests 31 suspected trainees
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 suspected internet fraudsters during a sting operation at a so-called “Yahoo academy” located in Becki Estate, Karu, Abuja.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, April 9, 2026, led to the arrest of two alleged kingpins and 29 trainees undergoing cybercrime tutorials at the facility.
According to the EFCC, items recovered from the scene include mobile phones, 18 laptop computers, and other electronic gadgets allegedly used in training recruits for internet fraud activities.
Investigations revealed that some of the trainees were recruited from Benue State under the guise of job opportunities but were instead introduced to cybercrime operations upon arrival.
The commission further stated that recruits were housed within the academy premises, had their movements restricted, and were cut off from outside communication after their phones were confiscated.
The EFCC also alleged that strict disciplinary measures, including physical punishment, were used to enforce compliance among trainees described as “interns.”
Authorities said the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
