11 Killed as suspected bandits attack Katsina village, police confirm
The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed an attack by suspected bandits on Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government Area, leaving 11 people dead and two others injured.
Police spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Katsina on Monday, saying the attackers struck at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday.
He said the gunmen opened fire on residents, killing victims on the spot before fleeing the scene as security forces moved in.
“The assailants fled as security forces closed in on the scene,” he said.
According to him, a joint security team comprising police, military and other agencies responded swiftly following a distress call, forcing the attackers to retreat.
The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the deceased were buried according to Islamic rites.
Following the incident, the command reinforced security in the area and deployed additional tactical teams to prevent further attacks.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the police had also intensified patrols and strengthened collaboration with local communities to improve intelligence gathering.
He added that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
