BREAKING: House Of Representatives passes State Police bill
The House of Representatives has passed the constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police across the country.
Lawmakers approved the bill during Thursday’s plenary session following a vote on the proposed constitutional amendment.
The passage marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s long-running debate over decentralising policing and granting states the constitutional authority to establish and operate their own police services.
The development comes amid growing calls for reforms to strengthen internal security and improve the capacity of sub-national governments to tackle crime and other security challenges.
Further details on the provisions of the bill and the voting outcome are expected to emerge as proceedings continue. :::
