FCT Police secure conviction over murder of 80-Year-Old Adebola Ezekiel, Wife
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the murder of 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.
The FCT Police Command announced the conviction in a statement issued on Wednesday, describing the judgment as a major breakthrough in the pursuit of justice for the slain couple.
According to the police, the murders occurred on April 1, 2024, at the victims’ home in Zone D, Apo Legislative Quarters.
Investigators traced Marcus, who had previously worked as the couple’s driver, to Obajana in Kogi State, where he reportedly fled after the killings. He was arrested and brought back to Abuja for investigation.
Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he entered the victims’ residence around 11 p.m. on the night of the attack and murdered both husband and wife.
Further investigations revealed that Marcus had earlier been dismissed from his job as the couple’s driver following repeated disagreements with his employers.
The police subsequently charged him before the FCT High Court, where prosecutors presented evidence linking him to the crime.
Delivering judgment, Justice M. S. Idris held that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted Marcus for the double murder.
The court sentenced him to death by hanging.
Reacting to the judgment, the FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
The statement was signed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
