NGF commends Tinubu over expansion of Nigerian Army
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s approval of four new divisions for the Nigerian Army, describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening national security.
In a statement, the forum said the simultaneous establishment of the four divisions represents the largest single expansion of the Nigerian Army in recent history and reflects the President’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
The governors also commended Tinubu’s approval for the recruitment of 28,000 additional Army personnel and the acquisition of critical military equipment to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
According to the forum, the initiative will bolster ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other security threats facing the country.
“We wholeheartedly welcome this development, including the President’s approval for the Army to hire 28,000 new personnel and acquire more critical military assets. We are confident that this initiative will enhance the government’s counterterrorism and anti-banditry efforts,” the statement read.
The NGF reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Federal Government in addressing security challenges and advancing national development.
The forum also urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that would assist in preventing and combating crime.
It stressed that cooperation between citizens and security agencies remains essential to improving safety and restoring peace across the country.
