Bandits Kill Two, Abduct 26 in Kaduna Communities

At least two people have been killed, one injured and 26 others abducted following separate attacks by bandits on communities in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS) disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Yunusa Shehu.

According to Shehu, the attacks occurred in Tunburku, Tudun Amada and Kallon Kura communities, with the assailants also reportedly rustling cattle belonging to residents.

He said the bandits attacked Tunburku in Kidandan District and Tudun Amada in Kadage District almost simultaneously in the early hours of Monday.

Two residents, identified as Alhaji Surajo and Alhaji Ado, were killed during the attack on Tunburku, while 26 residents were abducted in Tudun Amada.

Shehu added that Ayyuba Usman sustained injuries during the attacks, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

In a separate incident, the bandits reportedly invaded Kura in Danmahawayi District at about 9 p.m. on Saturday and rustled cattle belonging to residents.

Shehu said the number of animals initially reported stolen was between 15 and 17, although efforts were ongoing to establish the actual number taken.

The attackers also reportedly invaded Kallon Kura in Danmahawayi District during the night and rustled more cattle before security personnel mobilised to the area.

Following intelligence on the movement of the bandits and the stolen animals, KadVS personnel launched an operation to track the attackers and recover the cattle.

The vigilantes reportedly engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing the assailants to retreat and abandon the cattle before fleeing the area.

A security source who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said the security personnel subsequently recovered 19 cattle from the bandits at about midnight on Saturday, September 5.

The recovery operation was conducted under the supervision of the KadVS Sector Coordinator in Giwa Local Government Area, who led the personnel during the exercise.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Command, DSP Mansur Hassan, said he would respond after obtaining further clarification on the reported attacks.

However, as of the time of filing this report, Hassan had not provided further information on the incidents.

The latest attacks have heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Giwa Local Government Area, where communities continue to face threats from armed bandits.
