TCN Announces Fresh Power Outage in Parts of Abuja After Transformer Trips

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a fresh power outage in parts of Abuja following the tripping of a 100MVA transformer at the Apo 132kV/33kV Transmission Substation.

TCN disclosed this in a notice issued on Wednesday, explaining that the transformer tripped in the early hours of the day.

According to the company, oil spillage on the red-phase high-voltage bushing of the transformer led to the tripping and affected four 33kV feeders serving parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The affected feeders are H31, H33, H35 and H37.

TCN said its maintenance personnel had commenced a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the fault and facilitate repairs.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby informs the public that the 100MVA TR4 transformer at the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation tripped in the early hours of today.

“Our maintenance crew are already carrying out a detailed investigation on the transformer to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping, to enable us effect repairs and restore the transformer,” the company stated.

The development has resulted in power outages in several areas of Abuja.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed that areas affected include Apo Legislative Quarters, Lokogoma, Apo Resettlement and other parts of the nation’s capital.

TCN said efforts were underway to identify and rectify the fault and restore electricity supply to the affected areas.

The latest outage comes shortly after the transmission company announced a separate blackout in parts of Abuja due to scheduled maintenance work.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are therefore expected to experience interruptions in electricity supply until repairs and restoration efforts are completed.
