Suspected gunmen have abducted an official of Akure North Local Government Area, Mr. Gbenga Sanni, in Ilu-Abo community in Akure, Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred in front of his residence at the Agbelere area shortly after he returned home, when the assailants emerged from a nearby bush and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

Sanni, an indigene of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, was said to have been abducted in the presence of his wife and two children, who watched helplessly as the operation unfolded.

A community source said three armed men carried out the attack, adding that residents have continued to express concern over repeated incidents of abduction in the area.

It was also gathered that no fewer than three residents of Ilu-Abo have been kidnapped within the last one month, heightening fear and tension among locals.

Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi said tactical teams had been deployed to the area to secure the victim’s rescue and track down the attackers.

Residents say the latest abduction has further deepened anxiety over rising insecurity in parts of Ondo State, particularly in rural and bush-adjacent communities.
