Man United Consider Howe, Nagelsmann, Conte as Carrick Faces Uncertain Future

Manchester United are reportedly considering Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte as potential replacements for head coach Michael Carrick following the club’s 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

According to ESPN, the loss at Old Trafford on Sunday has intensified pressure on Carrick, whose future at the club is now in serious doubt.

The defeat came five days after United suffered a heavy 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League, extending their winless run to eight matches in all competitions and leaving them 16th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone.

ESPN reports that the club have begun assessing alternative managerial options, with Howe, the former Newcastle United manager, and Nagelsmann, the Germany national team head coach, among those under consideration.

Conte, who reportedly left Napoli in the summer, is also said to be open to discussions should United approach him.

The report added that United had conducted due diligence on several managerial candidates before appointing Carrick on a two-year contract in May, following his successful interim spell at the club.

However, the former United midfielder is now facing mounting uncertainty after failing to secure an improved performance from his players following the defeat to Como.

Carrick’s decision to drop captain Bruno Fernandes for the Bournemouth encounter also attracted attention. The midfielder had criticised the team’s approach following the Champions League defeat.

United, however, struggled again at Old Trafford, with Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scoring for Bournemouth as defensive errors contributed to the home side’s disappointing performance.

Speaking after the match, Carrick admitted he was uncertain about what the club would decide regarding his future.

“I totally understand the situation,” he said. “I am not expecting anything, I’m carrying on as normal. I love this place. I’ll always carry on doing what I think is the best for the football club.”

United are scheduled to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday before taking on Aston Villa and Liverpool in what could prove to be a difficult run of fixtures.

The club will be looking to halt their poor run of form, while uncertainty continues to surround Carrick’s position.
