Federal High Court begins annual vacation July 27, designates vacation courts

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, has approved the court’s 2026 annual vacation, which will commence on July 27 and end on September 11, 2026.

The announcement was made in line with Order 46, Rule 4(d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.

A statement signed by the Director of Information of the Federal High Court, Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher, said the annual vacation would allow judges of the court to proceed on recess while ensuring that urgent matters continue to receive judicial attention.

According to the statement, designated vacation courts will remain operational in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Enugu throughout the vacation period to handle cases requiring immediate intervention.

The statement advised legal practitioners and members of the public to file and prosecute only urgent matters at the designated vacation courts nearest to them.

For the Abuja Judicial Division, Justices J.O. Abdulmalik and O.A. Egwuatu were designated as vacation judges.

In Lagos, the vacation courts will be presided over by Justices Akintayo Aluko and Ogazi F. Nkemakonam.

The Port Harcourt Division will be served by Justices P.M. Ayua and A.T. Mohammed, while Justices F.O.G. Ogunbanjo and M.T. Segun-Bello were designated for the Enugu Division.

The Federal High Court noted that despite the annual vacation, judicial services would remain available for urgent cases through the designated judges and divisions.

Justice Tsoho also wished judges of the Federal High Court a pleasant vacation ahead of the commencement of the annual recess.
