Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, for allegedly selling cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State.

The centenarian was reportedly arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a form of cannabis, which had allegedly been divided into smaller portions for sale.

NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said Ogunmabo admitted during questioning that she sold the illicit substance to residents in the community.

According to Babafemi, the elderly woman told investigators that she ventured into the illegal trade after a fire destroyed her provisions store.

She reportedly identified one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, as the person supplying her with cannabis.

“She said one of her daughters, who resides in Lagos, arranges the supply of the substance to her every four days, which she in turn sold in bits,” Babafemi said.

The NDLEA subsequently arrested the daughter allegedly connected to the supply of the substance.

However, following the arrest of the centenarian, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that she be granted bail and referred for counselling in view of her advanced age.

The arrest formed part of the agency’s recent nationwide operations targeting the cultivation, trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.

The NDLEA said the operations also resulted in other arrests and drug seizures at various locations across the country, including land and maritime borders.

The agency has continued to intensify its enforcement operations against illicit drug activities while also pursuing measures aimed at addressing drug abuse and trafficking across Nigeria.
