NUJ mourns: Seven Gombe Journalists killed in tragic road crash
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the tragic death of seven journalists from Gombe State who lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident.
The Union described the incident as a devastating blow to the journalism profession, not only in Gombe State but across the country, noting that the deceased were dedicated media professionals who served the public with courage, integrity, and professionalism.
In a statement issued on behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC) and the entire NUJ family nationwide and signed by its National President Comrade Alhassan Yahya, the Union extended heartfelt condolences to the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, as well as the families, friends, and colleagues of the departed journalists.
“The untimely loss of these committed journalists has created an irreplaceable void in our noble profession. They were practitioners who upheld the ethics of journalism and worked tirelessly in the service of society,” the statement said.
The NUJ stated that it stands in full solidarity with the bereaved families and the Gombe State media community during this moment of grief, while praying for divine comfort and strength for all those affected by the tragedy.
The Union also used the occasion to reiterate concerns over road safety in the country, stressing that the incident highlights the urgent need for improved road infrastructure, responsible driving, and stronger safety measures to prevent avoidable loss of lives, particularly for journalists who are often on the road in the line of duty.
The NUJ prayed for the eternal repose of the souls of the departed journalists and asked God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
