Boko Haram sets trucks carrying fish ablaze in Borno
Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have set ablaze three trucks carrying fish along the Mile-Forty area of Magumeri Local Government Area in Borno State on Thursday afternoon.
The vehicles, which included two Peugeot J5 trucks and a school bus, were intercepted by the terrorists around 1:00 p.m., forcing the drivers to flee into nearby bushes. Fortunately, all the drivers escaped unharmed, but the trucks and their cargo were completely destroyed.
Survivors described the attack as devastating, with one driver lamenting the loss of his only means of livelihood. He urged the federal government and security agencies to intervene, noting that attacks on commercial vehicles have become increasingly frequent. Recent incidents include the burning of four trailers carrying cows on February 10, 2026, and four trucks transporting beans a few days earlier at Garin Kashim in Guzamala LGA.
Truck operators blame the lack of adequate security along the route, citing limited checkpoints only at Gajaganna, Gajiram, Mairari, and Monguno. Many have reportedly withdrawn their vehicles from the road due to repeated attacks.
Drivers and community members are calling on authorities to deploy troops and establish fortified patrols, similar to measures implemented along the Gwoza axis, to protect lives, safeguard livelihoods, and prevent further disruption to the transportation of essential goods in Borno State.
