Bwari Council Chairman dumps PDP, joins APC
The Chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), John Gabaya, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to strengthen development through closer collaboration with the Federal Government.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ernest Agada, Gabaya said the move represents a strategic political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The council chairman, who was elected on the PDP platform in 2019 and is set to complete his second term in June, is currently eyeing a seat in the House of Representatives for the AMAC/Bwari constituency in the 2027 polls.
Gabaya said his decision followed “fervent prayers and extensive consultations,” adding that it complies with constitutional provisions of both political parties.
“I have wholeheartedly embraced the APC as a platform for advancing peace, unity, and development in the Bwari Area Council, Abuja,” he said.
He explained that the defection would enhance collaboration with the Federal Government and drive long-term development in the council.
While expressing appreciation to his former colleagues in the PDP for their support and sacrifices, Gabaya stressed that his exit does not signal hostility but reflects a broader commitment to the collective interest of the council.
He also expressed optimism about the 2027 elections, voicing confidence that the area council would deliver strong support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
