Tinubu, St. Kitts PM agree to appoint special envoys to deepen ties
President Bola Tinubu and the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, have agreed to appoint special envoys to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation between both countries.
The decision was announced by Drew after a meeting with Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, where both leaders reviewed existing engagements and explored new areas of partnership.
According to the Prime Minister, the appointment of envoys in Abuja and Basseterre is aimed at ensuring effective implementation of agreements while expanding collaboration between Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the wider Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
He commended Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to fostering stronger Africa-Caribbean relations, describing Nigeria as a key player on the continent and globally.
Drew also highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between both nations, noting that many citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis trace their ancestry to Nigeria, particularly the Calabar region.
On areas of cooperation, he said discussions covered cultural exchange, education, agriculture, food security and broader development partnerships. He pointed to ongoing collaboration in health and education as evidence of tangible progress, citing the contributions of Nigerian-trained professionals in his country.
The move signals a shift towards more structured and results-driven diplomacy, as both nations seek to translate longstanding ties into measurable socio-economic benefits for their citizens and the wider African and Caribbean regions.
