President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently resigned to pursue his ambition in the 2027 Adamawa State governorship election.

The President also approved the renewal of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.

The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, noting that both decisions take immediate effect.

Before his new role, Professor Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. He is regarded as an experienced academic and administrator, with a background spanning research, education, and institutional leadership. His appointment is seen as part of efforts to strengthen capacity development in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

President Tinubu tasked him with repositioning the PTDF to enhance human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for the oil and gas industry in line with national priorities.

Meanwhile, the renewal of Abdulaziz’s tenure follows an assessment of his leadership at TCN, where he has overseen improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and system modernisation. He also brings over three decades of experience in the power sector and has contributed to regional electricity integration through his role in the West African Power Pool.

The President urged both appointees to carry out their duties with diligence, integrity, and commitment to national service in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
