Bala Mohammed, Peter Obi hold closed-door talks on economic recovery, national unity
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed details of his closed-door meeting with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying discussions centred on Nigeria’s economic challenges, citizens’ welfare, and the need to strengthen democratic institutions.
Mohammed disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Thursday, noting that Obi visited him at the Government House in Bauchi for what he described as a “timely engagement.”
“Today, I received the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and a chieftain of the ADC, Mr. Peter Obi, at the Government House in Bauchi. Our discussions centered on critical national issues, including economic recovery and the welfare of our citizens,” the governor said.
He added that both men also took stock of the country’s political environment and the urgency of institutional reforms.
“We also took time to review the evolving political landscape and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen our democratic institutions,” he stated.
Mohammed commended Obi for the visit, stressing that such engagements were vital for national progress.
“I commended him for the visit, as engagements of this nature foster mutual understanding and help drive practical, people-focused solutions,” he said.
According to the governor, both leaders agreed that national interest must supersede partisan considerations.
“We jointly urged all stakeholders to rise above partisanship and place the national interest at the forefront of all decisions,” he added.
The meeting comes amid intensified political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
