BREAKING: Fred Agbedi emerges House Minority Leader as Abbas announces new opposition leadership
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has officially announced Hon. Fred Agbedi as the new Minority Leader of the House.
Agbedi, who represents the Ekeremo/Sagbama Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, will lead the opposition caucus in the Green Chamber.
Also announced as part of the new minority leadership team are Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki as Deputy Minority Leader and Hon. Manur Soro as Minority Whip.
The announcement came amid mounting pressure from members of the G-60 opposition caucus, who had stormed Thursday’s plenary demanding that the House leadership resolve the lingering issue surrounding minority leadership positions.
The lawmakers reportedly warned that failure to address the matter could disrupt legislative proceedings and force a suspension of plenary activities.
The official announcement by Speaker Abbas effectively settles the leadership question within the minority caucus and paves the way for the newly appointed principal officers to assume their responsibilities in the House of Representatives.
