German champions Bayern Munich have officially signed Colombian winger Luis Diaz from Liverpool in a deal reportedly valued at €75 million ($86.5 million).
The club confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, announcing that Diaz has penned a long-term contract that will keep him in Munich until 2029.
The 28-year-old forward joins Bayern after a successful run at Liverpool, where he helped the Reds lift the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup during his time at Anfield. Diaz made a significant impact last season, scoring 17 goals in 50 appearances as Liverpool clinched their 20th league title under new head coach Arne Slot.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen praised the acquisition, describing Diaz as one of the finest left wingers in the Premier League. “In Luis Diaz, we have succeeded in bringing in one of the best left wingers in the Premier League,” Dreesen said. “He brings real player character from Liverpool to FC Bayern — he’s won silverware with every one of his clubs to date.”
Speaking after the move, Diaz expressed his delight at joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs. “It means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern,” he said. “They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my character. My goal is to win every possible title, and that’s what we’ll work for every day as a team.”
Diaz was notably absent from Liverpool’s recent 4-2 loss to AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong, fueling rumours of his imminent departure. His arrival at Bayern comes as a timely boost for the Bundesliga side, who are currently without Jamal Musiala due to a broken leg and dislocated ankle suffered during the Club World Cup. Diaz is expected to fill the gap left by the injured German forward.
