All three 2026 World Cup hosts crash out before Quarter-Finals
The three countries hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup have all been eliminated before the quarter-final stage, ending the tournament hopes of the United States, Mexico and Canada despite the advantage of playing on home soil.
The United States became the final co-host to exit the competition after suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Belgium on Tuesday.
Belgium produced a dominant display to book their place in the quarter-finals, bringing an end to the Americans’ World Cup campaign.
Canada were the first of the three host nations to be knocked out after a 3-0 defeat to Morocco in the Round of 16.
The North Africans secured a comfortable victory through a brace from Azzedine Ounahi, while Soufiane Rahimi added a late third goal to seal qualification.
Mexico also failed to progress after putting up a spirited performance against England.
Despite playing against an England side reduced to 10 men, the Mexicans were beaten 3-2, with Jude Bellingham scoring twice to inspire the Three Lions to victory.
The exits mean none of the tournament’s three host nations managed to advance beyond the Round of 16.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by three countries and the first to feature an expanded 48-team format.
Although all three co-hosts reached the knockout stage, their hopes of making history on home soil ended before the last eight.
