Breaking: Court grants Sowore ₦200 Million bail, orders Passport surrender

Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, in the sum of ₦200 million over alleged cybercrime charges.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, the judge ordered Sowore to provide two sureties as part of the bail conditions.

According to the court, one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community, while the second must own landed property in Abuja.

Justice Umar also directed that both sureties be verified by the prosecution before the bail conditions can be perfected.

In addition, the court ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court pending the conclusion of the trial.

Following the ruling, the judge released Sowore into the custody of his legal team and adjourned the case until Monday, July 6, for the commencement of the defence.
