Commanding officer, six soldiers killed after repelling attack in Borno
A Commanding Officer and six other military personnel have been killed after troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, repelled a terrorist attack on their position in Monguno, Borno State.
The troops reportedly came under attack at the Charlie 13 location in the late hours of April 12, 2026, sparking a fierce gun battle that forced the insurgents to retreat. Troops were said to have retained control of the position after the exchange.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Sani Uba, the Commanding Officer was killed while moving toward the frontline to assess the situation.
His vehicle was said to have struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), killing him alongside six other personnel.
The military described the late officer’s actions as a reflection of exceptional leadership and bravery, noting that he advanced toward danger even after the immediate threat had been neutralised.
It added that his conduct demonstrated courage, selfless service, and a commitment to leading from the front in ensuring the safety and operational effectiveness of his troops.
Operation Hadin Kai mourned the slain personnel, saying their sacrifice would remain indelible in the memory of the Armed Forces and the nation.
Borno State remains one of the major theatres of insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East, where troops continue sustained offensives against terrorist groups operating across the region.
