Court orders DNA Tests to determine paternity of Mohbad’s Son
The Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has ordered that DNA tests be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The tests are to be carried out in accredited and recognised hospitals both within Nigeria and abroad.
Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga gave the order on Tuesday while ruling on an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who is seeking a paternity test. Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent in the case brought under the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012 and the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.
The application requested the court to direct medical officers at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, where Mohbad’s remains are kept, to collect samples for the DNA tests. It also asked that one test be conducted in Lagos State or another location in Nigeria and another in a recognised medical facility outside the country, at the applicant’s expense.
In the court documents, Joseph Aloba stated that there was ongoing uncertainty regarding Liam’s paternity, making it crucial to resolve the matter for the child’s welfare and maintenance decisions.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, Augustine Adegbemi represented Joseph Aloba, while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for Omowunmi Aloba. With no objections raised by the respondent’s counsel, the court granted the application and ordered that:
Two DNA tests be carried out, one in Nigeria and another abroad, at recognised medical facilities.
Both parties or their representatives be present during sample collection.
The case was adjourned until November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
