CSMC Movement Crisis Deepens as Group Rejects Appointment of Acting Baba Aladura
A group of concerned members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church (CSMC) Worldwide has rejected the recent appointment of Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Gabriel Kassim as Acting Baba Aladura of the church.
The group, in a statement dated August 20, 2026, claimed that the appointment did not comply with the church’s constitution and sacred tradition.
According to the concerned members, the office of Baba Aladura is subject to hierarchical succession, and following the death of the late Baba Aladura, His Grace Emmanuel Alogbo, the position should have devolved to Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye.
They maintained that the constitutional arrangement was established to ensure order, continuity and unity within the church.
“We the concerned members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Worldwide, acting in accordance with the Church Constitution and Sacred Tradition, wish to address the recent announcement regarding the appointment of a new acting Baba Aladura,” the statement said.
Group Rejects Kassim’s Appointment
The group specifically rejected the announcement naming Gabriel Kassim as Acting Baba Aladura, alleging that the procedure stipulated by the church constitution was not followed by the Board of Trustees.
It consequently described the appointment as “null, void, and of no effect” within the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church.
The group, however, presented Timothy Iranloye Adewoye as what it described as the “authentic and constitutionally recognised Acting Baba Aladura” of the church, with effect from August 20, 2026.
The members said the decision followed consultations with districts and branches of the church worldwide.
They called on districts, branches, model branches and members across the world to support Adewoye with prayers and allegiance.
Group Calls for Peace
Despite the disagreement over the succession, the group urged members of the church to remain calm, prayerful and law-abiding.
“The Church is bigger than any individual or Board of Trustees,” the statement said, warning against actions capable of creating division and confusion within the movement.
The group also appealed to the public, media organisations and government agencies to recognise only communications it said would be issued by the office of the “authentic Acting Baba Aladura.”
The statement was signed on behalf of concerned members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide.
The claims contained in the statement represent the position of the group that issued it. The statement did not include a response from the Board of Trustees or representatives supporting the appointment of Gabriel Kassim.
