JUST-IN: Bandits kill 13, abduct several at Kaduna wedding attack
Bandits have killed 13 people and abducted several others during a deadly attack on a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area.
The attack occurred late Sunday night at about 11:47 p.m., raising fresh concerns over insecurity in rural communities across Kaduna State.
Residents said the gunmen, who arrived in large numbers and were heavily armed, opened fire on guests, causing panic and confusion at the venue. Several victims sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital in Kagarko, while those critically wounded were referred to facilities in Kaduna for further treatment.
A community leader disclosed that the attackers operated unchallenged for nearly an hour and also looted nearby shops, carting away food items, provisions, and medical supplies.
The deceased have since been buried, while efforts to establish contact with the abductors remain unsuccessful.
A police source in Kagarko confirmed the incident, noting that security agencies are still working to ascertain the exact number of abducted victims. The spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Hassan Mansur, assured that a comprehensive report would be issued after preliminary investigations are concluded.
