NAPTIP rescues 12 Women from human trafficking in Kano
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Zonal Command, has taken custody of 12 rescued female victims of human trafficking, aged between 15 and 50.
The Zonal Commander, Mr. Abdullahi Babale, confirmed on Monday that the victims were handed over by the Kano State Hisbah Board, which conducted the rescue in collaboration with NAPTIP.
The victims were intercepted on August 31 at Karota Luxurious Park, Hotoro Western Bye-Pass, while being trafficked to Ghana and onward to Saudi Arabia for suspected labour exploitation.
Babale revealed that the victims hail from Kano, Katsina, Borno, Jigawa, and Zamfara states. One suspect, Mohammed Saleh, 45, was arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other key members of the trafficking network.
“The rescue and arrest are in line with the directive of the NAPTIP Director-General, Hajiya Binta Adamu-Bello, to intensify intelligence gathering and crack down on suspected traffickers operating within Nigeria,” Babale stated.
He commended the Kano Hisbah Board and the state government for their continued collaboration in protecting vulnerable citizens.
Babale assured that the rescued victims would receive counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families, in line with NAPTIP’s victim-centered approach.
He also urged parents to remain vigilant and warned the public to report any suspicious activities related to human trafficking in their communities.
