NUJ FCT mourns Dr. Jophia Nanker Gupar: Champion for Women and the Vulnerable
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has mourned the passing of its dear friend and associate member, Dr. Jophia Nanker Gupar, who died after a brief illness.
In a statement on Friday signed by the Chairman of Council Comrade Grace Ike, the union described Dr. Jophia as a kind-hearted woman who has contributed her quota to the media community and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those around her.
Ike said she was a jolly good fellow, always wearing a cheerful smile.
“Dr. Jophia contributed her quota by fighting injustice, especially for the less privileged,” Chairman Ike said.
“She stood at the forefront championing support for women always taking action rather than offering lip service.
Her sudden passing is a heavy loss for our community.”
Colleagues remembered Dr. Jophia as a dedicated advocate for vulnerable groups and a tireless supporter of practical initiatives that uplift women and disadvantaged people.
Her efforts extended beyond rhetoric into hands-on support and mentorship.
The NUJ FCT Council confirmed that burial arrangements and a service of songs are being prepared and that details will be shared with members once finalised.
“We mourn the passing of our dear friend Dr. Jophia Nanker Gupar,” Chairman Ike said.
“Her contributions to the media community were significant, and her death comes as a shock to many.
“This is a painful loss, but God knows best. May her soul rest in peace.”
She will be missed by many whose lives she touched through her kindness, advocacy and steady support.
